Ben Carollo

Intrepid travels, rituals, relics and bearded pleasures. Ben Carollo’s lithographs are portraits. Though not in the traditional literal portraiture sense, they are more like the oozing ectoplasmic residue and phantasms of Dr Peter Venkman’s ghostbusting vocation. Suggestions of imagery entrenched in historical relevance floating in the ether as Ernest Hemmingway is inverted in the title The Old Man within a Sea.
There are hints of both pain and contentment lost in the pool of disfigurement upon the page the image rests. Carollo graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Printmaking. He has exhibited in several group shows in Melbourne over the past two years.
