Bethany O’Donnell

Bethany O’Donnell’s small ink drawings and collages are subtle, quiet and intimate. However beneath their soft exterior runs a darker undercurrent. O’Donnell’s practice is a negotiation of her own internal landscape, played out through her exploration of the female body.
Her figures appear fragmented, distorted, deformed, or doubled and always in a state of tension. The severed heads, erased mouths, multiple eyes and disconnected limbs of these broken bodies, convey the artist’s inner conflicts and anxieties. In some instances anatomical diagrams of the heart and brain quite literally pour out from the body’s orifices. O’Donnell recently completed a Masters of Studio Art at Sydney College of the Arts. She has exhibited in numerous shows at Mori gallery, Sydney including an upcoming group show in 2012.
