Dan McCabe is a visual artist based between Brisbane and Perth. In 2012 he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with First Class Honours at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. McCabe has been included in a number of solo and group exhibitions, showing at A-CH Gallery, Griffith University Art Gallery (GUAG), John Paynter Gallery, Queensland Centre for Photography, Metro Arts, Ryan Renshaw, Centre for Contemporary Photography and Moana Project Space. McCabe has also exhibited as a finalist in various art competitions including: The Gas: Graduate Art Show at GUAG in both 2011 and 2012; The Churchie National Emerging Art Prize at GUAG in 2013; the Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award in 2013; and Salon at CCP in 2013. In 2014 he will take part in a two-month studio residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. McCabe is also a founding member and director of Brisbane based artist-run gallery Addition. McCabe disguises, reveals and layers imagery – the stuff of suburban dreams. Using photographs as canvasses, he draws, sculpts and manipulates their surfaces; he makes photographs that are looked at and around, rather than into.
